Workout Wednesday: SoulCycle
We're back and we're going big! Werkout Wednesday is here and I'm going to discuss one of the biggest and most well known workouts in the country! It may or may not be a cult, but it's a healthy one, so I might just be willing to drink the electrolyte rich kool-aid.
Whether you LOVE...ok let's be real....borderline are obsessed with SoulCycle, or if you are terrified to try it, I think it's safe to say, you are not alone. SoulCycle has taken your basic exercise bike and turned it into the most exclusive club in town. With this has come a very big reputation and I think its time I share my experience with one of the hottest tickets in the fitness world.
What are other workouts that you all are obsessed with or are terrified to try? I want to try them, talk about them and find out your experiences too! Hit me up on Inclusion Health's Instagram and Facebook and make sure to check out all the photos and videos of our werkouts. Can't wait to hear from you!
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Other Locations: EVERYWHERE...there are so many of these studios all over the place. Check google or their app for one near you!
Description: If a stationary bike class at a gym had a baby with a Vegas nightclub, you would have yourself SoulCycle. The lights are dark and dim and the music is so loud your ears don't stop ringing for hours but its so good that you don't care. The instructors are 1/3 motivational speakers, 1/3 DJs and 1/3 spin instructors...in that order. Its expensive and hard to get in but its usually worth it because it's so fun!
Level: Moderate-Advanced: I wouldn't recommend this class to a complete newbie to working out but if you have started to dabble in cardio and its going alright then this is a good way to launch it into high gear. You will sweat! Your heart will pound! And you will get a killer cardio workout.
Geared Towards: Anyone who wants to sweat out their feelings, drown out their anxieties and zone in on just peddling one leg in front of the other. Because these classes are very expensive and often times they are hard to get into, they are unfortunately not a great fit for everyone. But if you can or want to splurge on a fancy workout, this might be the treat you're looking for.
What I Loved: The music! I mean, there was an Elton John "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" mash up with Eminem. I mean, COME ON! The instructor was also, in my friends words, "life changing and my therapist". I might have to agree. The amount of energy this guy had and the constant stream of inspirational quotes and stories was exactly what I needed!
What I Would Improve: If you haven't guessed yet, it would be the price. These classes are so expensive in my opinion. It was also very competitive to get in the class that I had to be on a waitlist. It was NOON on a TUESDAY! There's a bit of an intimidation factor too that I don't love. The whole bike set up and the shoes and the way everything works is kind of like if you know, you know, and if you don't know, you're going to be embarrassed.
The Studio: The studios are beautiful and clean and I have never been to one that I haven't enjoyed overall. The staff is friendly and everyone is very energetic.
How to Access: I signed up for this class on their app and decided on a three class package with the thought that I could use them in all their cities as I traveled. Unfortunately, I can only use my classes in Boston which I find rather disappointing.
So there you have it, my take on the one and only SoulCycle...infamous or famous depending on who you ask. I personally really enjoyed this class and needed the physical and mental benefits that it provided. I'll definitely be going back from time to time. Now head on over to our Instagram and Facebook pages to watch my story. While I was afraid to video this class for fear of being physically removed from the premises for having my phone, I did get some fun pics and video of before and after class. If you have tried or go and try SoulCycle now, PLEASE tell me your opinion and stories! Or maybe you prefer a different spin class. I'd love to hear from you!
